Yonas obtained his bachelor degree in Biotechnology from the University of Malaysia Sarawak in 2015 where he worked on the development of bacteria-derived pigments for dye-sensitized solar cell application. He then obtained his Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bonn in 2018, during which period of time he got interested in the innate immune system. He has been working on inflammasome response to virus infections since his Master Thesis in the Schmidt lab, and joined the lab as a PhD student in 2018.
Outside the lab you can find Yonas off-road biking, running and daydreaming (sometimes also in the lab) of vacations in Iceland and New Zealand.
