Stephanie Lohmann studied Biochemistry with a specialization in Molecular Medicine (2010-2015) at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. After a year of traveling, she completed her PhD (2017-2021) under the supervision of Prof. Erdem Gültekin Tamgüney at the DZNE in Bonn, Germany, where she graduated with first class honors. Stephanie investigated the neuroinvasion of α-synuclein from the periphery and the effects of stroke leading to α-synucleinaggregation, resulting in two first author publications.
Stephanie joined the Regenerative Neuroimmunology group of Prof. Marcela Pekna at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, as a postdoctoral researcher (2021-2023), investigating the impact of the complement system on secondary neurodegeneration and hyperconnectivity after stroke.
In 2024, Stephanie joined the research groups of Prof. Eicke Latz at the III and Dr. Róisín McManus at the DZNE as a postdoctoral researcher, investigating how microglial signaling modifies metabolic pathways leading to altered pathogenesis during aging or in neurodegenerative diseases.
