Jakob Neuberger studies medicine in the 6th Semester at the University of Bonn. Since December 2020 he works as a medical doctoral candidate in the COVID-19 lab of the Institute of Innate Immunity under supervision of Prof. Dr. Latz and Dr. Susanne V. Schmidt. His experimental dissertation focuses on the quantification of SARS-CoV-2 antigen, multiple markers for cell death and inflammation in peripheral blood of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients at different stages of COVID-19. Using highly sensitive immunoassays which are setup on platforms like the Simoa HD-X and Meso, he monitorizes the dynamics of the above mentioned biomarkers in a combinatorial fashion with clinical data and data on patient history. His aim is to evaluate potential candidate markers for a clinical stratification system to predict patients who are in danger to develope severe or critical courses of COVID-19.
