Before Deniz started as a PhD candidate, he studied the Research Master in Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences, specialization Fundamental Neuroscience, at the University of Maastricht. As part of his internship, he investigated the contribution of tethering proteins to the axon-myelin synapse pathology in Multiple Sclerosis at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam. He is mainly interested in neurodegenerative, neuroimmunological and neurological disorders and injuries. As a PhD candidate in our lab, he can perfectly combine his research interests by investigating the role of cellular senescence in relation to tauopathies, focusing on the role of the NLRP3-inflammasome.
